AFS Virtual Movie Club Presents: “April Captains” (2000 – de Medeiros) – April 27th

The Aurora Film Society Virtual Film Club brings you “April Captains” for our April 27th discussion.  This film is now streaming for free on YouTube.  Be sure to open the captions in the YouTube player if you don’t speak Portuguese.

April Captains is a 2000 film telling the story of the Carnation Revolution, the military coup that overthrew the coporatist dictatorship (known as the Estado Novo) in Portugal on 25 April 1974.  Although dramatised, the plot is closely based on the events of the revolution and many of the key characters are real – such as Captain Salgueiro Maia and Prime Minister Marcelo Caetano.
