AFS Virtual Movie Club Presents: “April Captains” (2000 – de Medeiros) – April 27th

The Aurora Film Society Virtual Film Club brings you “April Captains” for our April 27th discussion.  This film is now streaming for free on YouTube.  Be sure to open the captions in the YouTube player if you don’t speak Portuguese.

April Captains is a 2000 film telling the story of the Carnation Revolution, the military coup that overthrew the coporatist dictatorship (known as the Estado Novo) in Portugal on 25 April 1974.  Although dramatised, the plot is closely based on the events of the revolution and many of the key characters are real – such as Captain Salgueiro Maia and Prime Minister Marcelo Caetano.

We invite you to join us via Zoom on April 27th at 7pm for analysis of “April Captains”.  We have added a link in the pulldown menu under the Virtual Movie Club button to make it easier to participate in our discussions every month.

Check out the selected films for our theatre screenings too.   Join us this month for “Son Of Monarchs” and bring a friend who loves movies!
