AFS Virtual Movie Club – August 18th: “Bacurau”

The Aurora Film Society Virtual Film Club brings you “Bacurau” for our August 18th discussion.

In the near future, the people of Bacurau, an impoverished, rural settlement in the fictional municipality of Serra Verde, in western Pernambuco, gather for the funeral of Carmelita, an elderly woman seen as the matriarch of the community. Her granddaughter Teresa (Bárbara Colen), now a young woman, returns to town after many years for the occasion, as well as to deliver some medicine to the town. In the following days, the village experiences a sequence of strange events, including telephone signals going down, the town inexplicably disappearing off of maps and GPS, sightings of UFO-shaped drones and an unnamed couple from Rio de Janeiro passing through town on motorcycles.

We invite you to join us via Zoom on August 18th at 7pm for analysis of “Bacurau”.  We have added a link in the pulldown menu under the Virtual Movie Club button to make it easier to participate in our discussions every month.

Check out the selected films for our theatre screenings too.  Subscribers and their guests returned last month in decent numbers for our screening of “Dead Man”.  Join us this month for “Medium Cool” and bring a friend who loves movies!
