AFS “On Our Screen” Presents: “25 Cats from Qatar” [2025 / 95 min. / Mye Hoang] – April 18th

The Aurora Film Society presents the documentary “25 Cats from Qatar” on Saturday, April 18th, at 11:30 a.m. at The Venue (21 S. Broadway in downtown Aurora).

This 2025 film from Mye Hoang tells the story of Katy McHugh, the owner of a cat cafe in Milwaukee. After learning about the plight of the street cat population of Dota, Qatar, she embarks on a bold and unsanctioned plan to rescue 25 cats and bring them back to the United States for adoption.

The number of feral cats in Qatar is estimated to be equal to the number of people living in that nation, and life for them is often difficult. Disease is rampant, and there are few avenues for local adoption to provide these cats with better lives. Film Threat says the movie “succeeds not only as an advocacy piece, but [also] as a compelling, fast-paced rescue adventure.”

Whether you’re a cat lover, an animal welfare advocate, someone who appreciates well-crafted documentary filmmaking, or some combination of the three, you’re sure to find something to like in this heartwarming tale. AFS presents “25 Cats from Qatar” in conjunction with Meowtel, benefitting Anderson Humane in South Elgin.
